NO ONE IS AWARE OF THEIR SURROUNDINGS NOWADAYS!
What the fuck is their problem??
This is going to be a recurring issue that will come up in many of my future blog posts, so it’s best that we start off with this first. Spatial awareness is the ability to recognize the distances to obstacles in your surroundings and navigate around or through them. The lack of spatial awareness has ultimately increased over the past few years. A clear example of the issue can be found at the grocery store. You walk in, and you’re bound to bump into someone. They may have been too distracted looking at an item whilst walking and accidentally bumped into you or your cart. But the number of times I’ve been ankled by a cart or hit by one due to someone’s reckless wandering is insane! How fucking stupid do you have to be to not see the person in front of you???
The majority of car accidents are caused by this matter. Like, what do you mean you’re going to merge into a lane without even checking if someone is there? Like, MOVE IT, LADY!
I would argue that the main cause of the decline in spatial awareness is due to phones. The usage of phones has reduced peripheral vision. When you have a device right in your face, you become accustomed to not noticing obstacles outside your center of focus.
You might start thinking, “This is just another bitch ass boomer crying about Gen Z.” For the record, I am a 20-year-old college student… But in my experience, this issue is more common among older generations than among Gen Z. It’s you older folks who always bitch and moan about how often we’re on our phones and shit, who are the ones who can’t be bothered with turning your heads or even looking up from your shoes to notice the person to your left. (With all due respect) We’ll pick up a book the day you pick up your glasses from the optometrist!
At times, it can even feel like it’s not just an accidental issue but rather an internal entitlement complex. If they are mentally aware that they are in a public building or street, they should take into account that there will be other people around. However, I feel that people just expect others to move out of their way. But I’m not going to do that. Sorry, not sorry.
Maybe it’s my OWN entitlement complex speaking, but if I’m pushing my cart forward and you’re off looking around while walking all willy-nilly, you better believe I will not stop. And if you’re looking at an item and have your cart in the middle of the aisle, imma ram or push it aside. If you can’t be bothered to move your cart so people can pass, I’m not going to bother asking. Maybe next time, you’ll remember to move ur cart while you look for your 3rd snack of the day, you fat, lazy fuck.
One takeaway from this: Always be considerate of those around you. Always check before moving or turning. Don’t just stop abruptly and expect everyone to move aside quickly. Because when you have two idiots who aren’t aware of their surroundings, you get into accidents. Trust me, I’ve been in one or two and have avoided many more. And if you do happen to realize your cart is in the center of the aisle, or realize you’re standing in the middle of foot traffic, MOVE IT!! Or at least, don’t get mad if someone pushes against you or thoughtfully moves your stuff to the side so they can pass.
This doesn’t JUST apply to grocery stores and driving. It applies to everything. Move when the line moves. Don’t grab something if you see me grabbing it too. Don’t walk into oncoming traffic and expect people to stop. Don’t take up 2 or more parking spots. Don’t hog a machine at the gym. COVER YOUR MOUTH WHEN YOU SNEEZE! (I will slap you)
Just be more considerate and less of a dumbass. I’m sure you’ve had your own experience with this issue. So don’t be that annoying experience for others.
